Tom Duerig is a scientist by training, specializing in Nitinol, a shape memory alloy. He is the founder and president of Nitinol Devices and Components (known as NDC), the largest producer of shape memory alloys in the world. NDC is also a major manufacturer of medical devices, including vascular stents. See Nitinol.com for more information. Tom's hobbies include sailing and studying the history of the South Pacific, two central elements of this novel. He also enjoys snow skiing and bicycling.
